NSS

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. The activity forum for NSS includes areas like, National Integration Camp, Blood Donation, Plantation, Immunisation, Shramdaan, Disastor Managament, and Adventure Programmes.

Our institute got engaged in NSS in 1999 through “Shrushti Nature Club” affiliated with WWF.In 2011 our college received the permission to perform NSS activities affiliated with the Shivaji University. Since then our NSS journey with active participation of the students and support of the staff is started with the achievement of great milestones.

What students should do to participate in NSS?

  • Students should remain as a NSS member for minimum 2 years.
  • Every year they should at least work for 120 hour.
  • It’s mandatory for the students to attend a 7-days camp.

Student’s benefit:

  • After working for 2 years (240 hour), students receives a certificate from the Shivaji University.
  • In the final year of the degree, students receives 10 marks for their efforts.
  • In case of failure in the examination of the students, there is an increment by 10 marks.

Our college received the award of ‘Best NSS Cell’ and our respected sir Prof. Pramod.D. Chougule received the ‘Best NSS Co-coordinator’ award from the Shivaji University in the year 2015-2016.

Activities Performed till date

Tree Plantation: Students planted tree in the vicinity of Nyaay Sankul (Judicial Complex, Kolhapur).

Paper bag manufacturing and distribution: Hundreds of eco-friendly paper bags were manufactured by the students and distributed in the locality for domestic use.

‘Say No to Dolby’: During the Ganesh Festival students distributed cotton balls to the people in the procession to protect them from the noise pollution.

Letter writing to the soldiers: Students wrote letters to our soldiers to show their love and respect towards them and the nation.

Raksha Bandhan: During the Raksha Bandhan festival girls of our NSS family visited the Blind School and tied Rakhi to the students of that school.

Dengue Awareness: At the start of the rainy season a survey was conducted by the students to create ‘Dengue Awareness’.

Dustbin making completion: Our NSS members made dustbins and the best dustbin maker was given a prize. These dustbins were kept in every class of the college to maintain cleanliness.

Traffic control activity: To control the increasing traffic, our students helped the Traffic Police. Traffic rule breakers were given a zendu flower for their behavior.

Women’s Day: Different activities were carried out which represented Women Empowerment and provided a platform to show their talents.

Cashless: To support the Indian Govt.’s decision about the ‘Cashless India’ our students created awareness among the people about the ‘Cashless Schemes’ provided by the Govt.

Blood Donation: By arranging blood donation camp every year 100 blood bottles given to various hospitals.

Special activities

Earth Hour: Every year this activity is performed by our students on the ‘Earth Hour Day’ by requesting the people to switch off their lights for 1 hour and making a 60+ with the help of candles.

Adventurous Trek: Every year our NSS department organizes an adventurous trek for the students where they can experience the beauty of the nature and learn trek skills. Up till date 18 treks were organized.

Cloths Donation: Usable but unused cloths after collecting are donated to the NGO’s like ‘Aanandavan’, ‘Avni’.

Guest Lectures: Various Guest Lectures were arranged for the NSS members to enhance their knowledge.
