A Report On Teacher’s Training Programme “Integrating Effective And Innovative Methods For Technical Subjects In Architectural Curriculum” in collaboration with COA-TRC from 2nd Dec 2019 to 6th Dec 2019 .

A teacher training program was held in DYPCET, Department of Architecture from 2nd Dec 2019 to 6th Dec 2019 in the college seminar hall.  The topic of the seminar was “Integrating effective and innovative methods for technical subjects in Architectural Curriculum “

2/12/19 –

The programme started at 10 am when the guest speaker for the 1st session arrived on the dias with other dignitaries. AR. Priyanka chougule welcomed the guests after which there was a ganesh Vandana sung by Ar. Sangram patil and Ar. Gaurav Vinchu. After the Ganesh Vandana there was the ceremony of watering the plants and welcome address by Dr.A.K Gupta. He then felicitated the guest speaker Ar. Bharat Gowda. After the felicitation, Ar. Gaurav vinchu introduced the guest speaker of the day.

The session started at 10:30 am. In his session Ar. Bharat Gowda talked about his path of Architecture, his passion for steel glass cable and modern architecture way back in 1994. He studied the earthquake resistant structures which was his elective project. Then there was discussion about working in U.S.A for 10 years, his projects in India and his research and publication in which his dictum was form follows formula

In his sessions he discussed about difference between civil engineering and Architecture. He also stressed why technical subjects are important. He pointed out that Architecture is not knowledge of form rather it is form of knowledge. According to him to design buildings, one needs knowledge of arts, mathematics, science, technology and humanities.

In his later sessions he talked about future of Architecture ‘Computational Design thinking’ and shelters in 2030 in which shelter, education, energy, water, transportation, food-agriculture & socialization was important. Last but not the least he talked about rational and empirical thinking process and presented some of the design by Antoni Gaudi and frei otto. At the end there was a question and answer session in which many of the queries asked by participants was answered.

3/12/19 –

Session started at 9.30 am and the Resource Person was Ar. Vaishali Angal. Her subject was Learning Building Technology through self experience. Her introduction was given by Ar. Krushnali Patil and the felicitation was done by Ar. R. G. Savant.

In her session she first stressed that girls should be tought differently about Building Technology subject and that they should have knowledge from actual building process on site.

According to her the learning process is through

  1. 1. Knowledge
  2. 2. Comprehension
  3. 3. Seeing

And that hands on experimentation is important. She actually built a wall of canteen by students and got a very good feedback about it.

According to her, staff preparation and staff up gradation is very important. Not only sheets but practical and knowledge is also important. One of her different approach was to ask the students to check their own building construction sheet when the check list was given to them. She also stressed that there should be no one way delivery of lecture in the class. Design and building technology should be integrated while teaching. She displayed some sheets of redevelopment of Balgandharva at Pune. It was a very interesting seminar at the end of which some of the queries were answered by her. The vote of thanks was given by Ar. Madhugandha Mithari.

The next Guest Speaker was Ar. T.S. Sagar whose topic was “Being Bruntal an insight to material driven design approach” and from ‘text to context: interpreting knowledge of architectural history and theories in design’.

He was felicitated by Ar. Indrajit Jadhav and introduction was given by Ar. Krushnali Patil.

In his sessions he talked about 5 architects which inspired him

  1. 1. Zaha Hadid – for different farmes
  2. 2. Charles Correa – modular, courtyards
  3. 3. Tadao Ando – water, plant light asymmetry
  4. 4. La – Corbuiser – golden mean, open facades, primary colony
  5. 5. Frank Gherry

According to him framing the problem was key to the answer. That knowledge background, inspiration sources and developmet tools like model making, sketeches, dialogue computer drawings were very important.

He presented some slides of memorial for swami Vivekananda where in there were 5 kinds of spaces.

  • 1. Pragmatic
  • 2. Perceptual
  • 3. Existential
  • 4. Cognitive and abstract

and the factors affecting these spaces were material factor, Environmental factor and functional factor.

He also presented source slides of Ramajanma Bhoomi site.

Lucknow sites and Railway station for railway station he explained the design process from concept to development of form, master plan, terminal plans, structures, landscape, module details, sustainable features, circulation and link.

At the end of session there were discussion about the queries by participants.

The vote of thanks was given by Ar. Madhugandha Mithari.

4/12/19-

Sessions for the third day were conducted by Ar. Mangesh Belsare and his topics were ‘Excitement of learning- an overview’ ‘Sharing experiences- construction & structures’, ‘Sharing of experiences- climate & lighting’ & Q.A session along with discussions. The session started by felicitation of Ar. Mangesh Belsare by Ar. S. M. Phadtare sir & introduction given by Ar. Priyanka Chougule.

In this session Ar. Mangesh Belsare discussed about various workshops conducted at various colleges. His hands on experiment approach was surely exciting for students. He worked with bamboo, clay, fabrics etc. his main aim was connecting Basic design with structures. He gave an interesting example of construction workshop at IDEA, Nagpur where he asked the students to write a story about how building behaves when external forces attacks it. He also presented slides of working on light. In his last session there were discussion amongst participants & answering of some queries.

5/12/19-

The fourth day session, was conducted by Dr. Asawari Bhave & her topic was ‘Conventional approach in teaching & shift in approach- Educational Psychology’, ‘Teaching & learning styles VARK strategies Active learning through effective teaching’. She was felicitated by Ar. Snehal Tiware and her introduction also was given by her. The session was extremely exciting in which she discussed about ways of communicating with students by giving participants various activities & drawing inferences from those activities.

There was a question and answer session & a long discussion with the participants. The session ended with vote of thanks by Ar. Snehal Tiware.

The next session of the day was conducted by Ar. Pushkar Kanvinde on the topic of landscape architecture. He was introduced by Ar. Snehal Tiware & felicited by Ar. Neela Jirge.

I his session he discussed various aspects of landscape right from the definition to the implementation in design. He talked about the way the subject should be taught. It was a very informative session & participants discussed many aspects about landscape with him.

At the end of session vote of thanks was given by Ar. Madhugandha Mithari.
6/12/19-

The fifth day session was conducted by Ar. Pushakr Kanvinde and Ar. Vinish Desai. The 1st session was conducted by Ar. Pushkar Kanvinde on the subject of working drawings.

He answered a few questions as to what is working drawing?

  • • That it is extension of design process,
  • • Part of learning process.
  • • Holistic in nature
  • • That clarity in construction is important

He also discussed course objectives of various universities & also presented slides on working drawings.

He also discussed attributes of working drawings.

  • • Complete resolution of design ideas
  • • Clarity in communication rather than bombarding with information
  • • Ease in understanding
  • • No confusion
  • • Adequate & connect cross references
  • • Handy size

The session ended with question & answer session & the vote of thanks was given by Ar. Madhugandha Mithari.

The last session was conducted by Ar. Vinish Desai. His topic was ‘Simplifying structures – an architect’s viewpoint’.

In his topic he mainly talked about TOS as a subject. He talked mainly about structures and how simple they are. Students are usually tense about structures as a subject but he sais that he opted to work with a structured engineering firm. He talked about large spam arches, about three pin arch joints. He explained the forces acting on arch & how these are dealt with in modern buildings. He presented many slides showing these structures. At the end there was a open discussion & a & A session.

Vote of thanks was presented by Madhugandha Mithari.

The T.T.P ended with feed backs from participants. The participants also assured that they shall implement whatever they had gained from the programme in their academics.
