Topic – “Parametric Design in High Rise Buildings”

OBJECTIVE:

To introduce to the students the scope of digital architecture.

To learn about designing in parametric software.

To make students understand the radical change to an existing industry due to technological innovation.

PROCESS:

A 3 – day workshop was arranged on Parametric Design in High Rise Buildings at BNCA, Pune. The students will be able to understand the paradigm shift from traditional architecture to digital architecture. They will also learn the basics of parametric software like Rhinoceros 7 and Grasshopper and an introduction to the fabrication interface wherein they will work on laser cutting and model assembly.

OUTCOME:

The students could make models using parametric software and analyse the differences between designing in traditional method and digital method. They learnt various aspects that could be considered while designing in these software. They learnt plug inns from which the structure could be made responsive to different aspects that are considered during designing like climate, structure, etc. They learnt basic commands and scripting in Rhinoceros 7 and Grasshopper and got acquainted with the fabrication interface by understanding the requirements of any file to be converted in printable file followed by the assembly of different elements of model.
